Was Industrial Revolution, truly a ‘Revolution’? Also comment on the connection between the Industrial Revolution in England and the French Revolution in France.

A revolution is said to have occurred in a society or a country has been large scale transformation in the political, social, economic and cultural conditions. The Industrial Revolution ( IR) was indeed a Revolution-:
a) Feudal Polity was uprooted and gave way for more democratic political setups. Despotic monarchies were either uprooted or lost much of their power
b) Rural character of society was changed into an urban one
c)Before IR main backbone of the economy was agriculture. After IR industries became the major mainstay of economy.
d)Joint family system collapsed and nuclear family system emerged.
e) Strong Judeo-Christian tradition of European society lost its grip and New ideologies like Communism, socialism, liberalism etc became popular
Hence, the impact of IR was in all the aspects of the society and hence it was a Revolution in true-est sense

IR in England and the French Revolution:
Owing to the IR in England, It became a major Industrial centre. English trade propsered due to new products produced by IR. IR led to emergence of new class of traders and reduced the power of the guilds. As a result , the economy of england flourished.
On the other hand, The French economy was in poor shape. It was mostly agrariana nd no industries existed. Guilds had made trade and commerce difficult. Due to this French economy was in Bad shape.Seeing the success of IR in England, the French aspired to have similar success in France also and it became a major motivation to remove the Bourbon dynasty in the French Revolution

Industrial revolution is the transformation of method of production from man made to machine made .The traditionally agricultural countries Britain were transformed into a predominantly industrial nation during this time resulted inflow of population from villages to industrial towns and England became the workshop of the world.

Industrial revolution was truly a revolution which disturbed the structure of English society .Agricultural and village handicrafts were declined ,the village artisans lost their jobs and rich land lords became more influential.The general standard level of living status was improved.Labour unrest and movement manifested due to extreme hardships.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION IN ENGLAND AND THE FRENCH REVOLUTION :

A)The clergy and the nobility were the major 2 estates exempted taxes where as third estate common people need to pay taxes in France alike England where middlemen exempted from payment of taxes.
B)Poorer sections were discounted and blamed the rich members of nobility class of their misery.
C)Both revolutions made changes in agriculture ,which worsened the
conditions of peasant.
D)The oppressed workers formed many secret societies and often resorted to strikes and rebellion.
E)The Christian missionaries and lands held in common by the community bought by the middle classes.
F)Both revolutions resulted in destructions of feudalism and transformed
into development of new economic system.
G)Abolished slavery and nurtured military strength.
Above all,both revolutions brought huge change in Ideas of social equality gave rise to new kind of political movement.
